ICM98-CL9 (96/12/18): Special Stamp for ICM98
TO ALL MATHEMATICIANS WHO HAVE PRELIMINARILY PREREGISTERED FOR
THE INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF MATHEMATICIANS 1998 IN BERLIN
Ninth Circular Letter, December 18, 1996
Subject: ICM98-CL9: Special Stamp for ICM98
Dear colleague:
Here is good news for the philatelists among the mathematicians.
About two years ago the ICM98 Organizing Committee contacted the German
Ministry of Postal Affairs and Telecommunication to issue a special
stamp on the occasion of the International Congress of Mathematicians
in Berlin in August 1998. A few days ago we received a positive
reply. The "selection committee for special stamps" proposed ICM98 as
one of the themes for a special stamp. The Minister of Postal Affairs
agreed.
The Ministry will ask several artists for design proposals. The artists
are supposed to contact the ICM98 organizing committee for ideas. Another
committee will make the selection.
Stamp collectors will have the opportunity to buy first-day covers during
the opening day August 18, 1998 of ICM98 in Berlin. This occasion may be
another good reason to attend the International Congress in Berlin.
Season's Greetings
Martin Groetschel
President of the
ICM98 Organizing Committee

Moreover, calls to ZIB's old URL (http://www.zib-berlin.de) and
related ZIB-based URLs, such as those of the International
